Slam Poetry Ignites Year 8 Creativity at Aldridge School

Aldridge School was buzzing with energy as a group of our Year 8 pupils stepped into the world of Slam Poetry with performance poet and musician Damani Dennisur. The workshop was packed with rhythm, rhyme, and creativity as students discovered the power of their own voices.

Damani, a Birmingham-born poet who began writing at 12 and became the city’s 7th Young Poet Laureate at just 14, brought his trademark energy to every corner of the workshop.

Throughout the session, pupils crafted their own slam poems, performed them with confidence, and watched Damani deliver some of his inspiring work live. The atmosphere was electric, and the creativity on display was outstanding.

Damani praised the group, saying, “Their ideas were bold, original, and full of personality; a brilliant group to work with.”

Year 8 pupil, Alfie B, added; “I didn’t know poetry could be this fun, and performing the poems has really helped with my confidence.”
