Core Values

Our Core Values

At the heart of our school community are three core values: Kindness, Honesty, and Respect. These values guide how we treat one another, how we learn, and how we grow—both as individuals and together. By living these values every day, we create a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where everyone can thrive.

Kindness

A kind student always treats others with compassion and empathy. They are considerate of others’ feelings and go out of their way to help those in need. By showing kindness, they help create a positive and supportive environment for everyone.

Honesty

An honest student always tells the truth and takes responsibility for their actions. They are trustworthy and reliable, and others know they can be counted on. Honesty builds strong relationships based on trust and integrity.

Respect

A respectful student values themselves, others, and their surroundings. They listen attentively, speak politely, and treat everyone with dignity. By showing respect, they help build a school community where everyone feels safe, valued, and included.

Our Core Values Story – The Journey

At Aldridge School, our core values are not simply words displayed on walls – they are the embodiment of who we are, how we treat one another, and how we prepare our young people for life beyond school.

In July 2024, we began an important conversation with our whole school community. Students, parents and carers, families, and staff were invited to vote for the values they believed mattered most from a shortlist of ten. Hundreds of responses were received, ensuring that our values were shaped by genuine community voice and reflected what truly mattered to the Aldridge School community.

From this consultation, a clear and powerful message emerged. Across every group, the same three values consistently rose to the top: Kindness, Honesty and Respect.

As a direct result, from September 2024, Kindness, Honesty and Respect officially became the core values of Aldridge School. These values now sit at the heart of our school culture, guiding decision‑making, shaping expectations, and informing how we learn, behave, and relate to one another. From the outset, it was clear that these values would be lived and modelled daily, rather than simply displayed.

They were intentionally embedded into all aspects of school life, including our curriculum, PSHCE provision, Aldridge Character Education, assemblies, tutor time, behaviour systems, and the language used by both staff and students. This ensured that students experienced the values consistently and understood what they look like in practice.

In October 2024, the journey continued as our rewards system was redesigned to align directly with the core values. Students began to be recognised and rewarded for consistently demonstrating Kindness, Honesty and Respect through their conduct, attitudes and interactions with others. This reinforced the importance of positive character and made our values visible through everyday recognition.

In December 2024, we reached an important milestone with our first Core Values Celebration Assembly. Students who had demonstrated all elements of the core values and had been nominated by their form tutors were invited to attend. During the assembly, awards were presented by Mr Worth, publicly celebrating students whose actions exemplified what it means to live by Kindness, Honesty and Respect. This moment powerfully reinforced that character matters at Aldridge School.

Our core values are also brought to life beyond the classroom. Students demonstrate kindness through whole‑school initiatives such as our acts of kindness projects, the shoebox appeal, Easter egg donations and our Community Cupboard donations. Respect is shown through strong community engagement, including attendance at community remembrance parades, where students represent the school with dignity and gratitude. Respect is further strengthened through visits to local care homes, where students share Christmas cards, Easter gifts and take time to engage positively with residents across generations.

Through these experiences, our values move from intention to action. They shape attitudes, influence choices, and help students develop empathy, integrity, and social responsibility. Kindness, Honesty and Respect are not simply taught at Aldridge School – they are lived every day. Our character education journey continues as we build upon these values, deepen our community connections and support our students in becoming compassionate, respectful and responsible individuals who make a positive contribution to society.
