Careers Event – Worktree Virtual Workout

Today, a group of our Year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to explore a wide range of careers that use maths through a virtual event delivered by Worktree.

Worktree facilitated the session brilliantly, introducing the event in an engaging and interactive way while encouraging students to think carefully about the types of questions they could ask employers. This helped to build confidence and ensured that all students were well prepared to take part fully.

Students then heard directly from professionals representing a variety of sectors, including Justine Ash (Solicitor), Steve Potterill (Physicist), Carole Bailey (Bookkeeper), Mark Austin (Finance Solutions Ltd and Trustee Treasurer of Worktree), and Bunmi Jejeloye (Bookkeeper). Each speaker provided valuable insight into their role and how maths plays a key part in their career.

Students demonstrated excellent engagement throughout the event, asking thoughtful and well-considered questions. They were particularly interested in how maths is used in areas such as aviation, as well as the pathways into different careers and the qualifications required to succeed.

The event concluded with employers sharing practical advice for both the present and the future. Students were encouraged to get involved in clubs and activities such as Scouts, Cadets or sports teams to help develop important skills such as teamwork, leadership and resilience. Employers also highlighted the importance of becoming well-rounded individuals, emphasising that personal qualities and attitude are just as important as qualifications when it comes to employment.
