Aldridge School Pupils Get Hands-On with STEM at In-Comm Training

Following an in-school STEM taster day, a group of Year 10 pupils from Aldridge School visited In-Comm Training in Aldridge for an exciting hands-on STEM activity day.

Pupils explored the training centre and gained valuable insight into the wide range of companies that send their apprentices to In-Comm, as well as the different apprenticeship roles available. They also learned about the responsibilities apprentices take on and the progression routes open to them, before observing apprentices from several companies in their learning environment.

Pupils later took part in an engineering challenge after receiving guidance on potential STEM pathways. Working in teams, they were tasked with designing and constructing a device capable of moving a ping pong ball 200mm horizontally and 200mm vertically. With instruction on the use of pneumatics and access to a range of materials, pupils developed creative prototypes and presented their designs.

Two current apprentices—who shared their own experiences of training and career development—joined the session to observe and judge the final presentations. They were highly impressed by the quality of the models produced and the confident presentations delivered by Aldridge pupils.

It was a fantastic day of learning, teamwork, and inspiration for our students. We extend a huge thank-you to In-Comm Training, Adams Enclosures for sponsoring the day, and all the companies who enabled their apprentices to spend time with us.
