Year 8 Students Inspired by Visit to Oxford University
On Tuesday 20th May, a group of Year 8 students from Aldridge School enjoyed an inspiring and educational visit to Oriel College, Oxford.
The day began with an engaging “Oxbridge Explained” session, which helped students understand the unique aspects of studying at Oxford or Cambridge. This was followed by a lively Q&A session, where pupils had the chance to meet current Oriel College students and ask them questions about university life.
As part of the visit, students also had a guided tour of the historic Oriel College and enjoyed lunch in their impressive dining hall. The afternoon included a visit to the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, where students explored fascinating exhibits covering everything from dinosaurs to geology.
The visit was part of Aldridge School’s ongoing commitment to raising aspirations, encouraging students to consider higher education and aim for top-ranking universities.
A Perkins, Year 8 pupil, said, "The visit to Oxford was really inspiring! I never thought about university life like that before. Meeting the students at Oriel College and hearing about their experiences made me feel like I could achieve something similar one day.”
L Deakin, Year 8, further commented, "The Oxford University Museum of Natural History was incredible! I never expected to be able to touch some of the exhibits, and it made the whole experience so much more exciting!”
