Year 8 Girls Cyber First

On Tuesday 4th November, a group of Year 8 girls from Aldridge School visited the BT offices in Birmingham for an inspiring and interactive careers event focused on the world of cyber security.

The day began with a motivational talk from Binita, a BT Senior Leader who shared her personal journey into the tech industry. Her story highlighted the diverse opportunities available in cyber careers and encouraged students to consider paths they may not have previously explored.

Following the talk, students took part in a series of hands-on workshops led by volunteers from organisations including Aston Villa Foundation, Aston University, and QinetiQ. Activities included:

  • Robot Football – Students controlled robots in a football match, learning about programming and automation.
  • Coding Challenges – Pupils programmed robots to complete tasks, developing problem-solving and logical thinking skills.
  • Cyber Security & Decoding – Interactive sessions introduced students to encryption and the importance of digital safety.

This exciting opportunity not only broadened students’ understanding of cyber careers but also helped them build confidence and curiosity about the future of technology in an incredible venue.

Thank you to BT and all the partner organisations who made the day so memorable.
