Year 7 & 8 RAF Cosford STEM Workshop Trip

On Thursday 12th June, a group of Year 7 and 8 students were invited to the RAF Cosford Museum to take part in a STEM workshop.

The students were set a challenge of designing and manufacturing a device for getting cargo off a plane to a land vehicle quickly. The students then got the opportunity to go around the museum, before the museum was open to the public, so they could see the plane with the cargo hold and the variety of land vehicles their device would need the ability to transport to.

Students decided on their job roles before starting to design and build their devices. Students learnt to create pulley systems, conveyor belts, electrical circuits as well as how to use craft knives and glue guns safely to create their fully working devices.

Once students had completed the main task, they were asked to present their device and learning, under the wings of a plane in the hanger, in front of a judge from the museum. The students presented eloquently and showed off their hard work. It was a close call, but the winning team was E. Gilman, E. Jones and G. Adams, a big well done!

A fantastic day in a fabulous location, thank you to Leanne Mee and the RAF Cosford Museum for a brilliant day.
