Students at Aldridge School shadow the Yoto Carnegie Medal

A group of avid readers in Year 8 have been very busy over the past few months reading, discussing, reviewing, and voting on the eight titles shortlisted for the Yoto Carnegie Medal. As part of the shadowing, students explored the criteria used by judges to select a book of outstanding literary quality.

The students were delighted to be able to watch the awards in a live-streamed ceremony on Thursday 20th June. Although the group’s personal favourite was “Away with Words” by Sophie Cameron, they were also thrilled with the ultimate winner, “The Boy Lost in the Maze” by Joseph Coelho.

L Humphries, Year 8 pupil commented, “this has been a fantastic experience, and has changed my perception of what makes a good read.”
